PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A medical emergency led to a fatal crash Friday afternoon in Patrick County, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred at around 2:21 p.m. on South Main Street near the parking of the former Food Country in Stuart.

State police said a 2018 Ford F-150 was going north when the driver suffered a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the road and strike several trees.

The driver was identified as Raymond Lee Spence, 82, of Stuart.

Police said Spence was wearing his seat belt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
