
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in Martinsville on Monday morning, bringing down trees and power poles along its path.
According to a public information statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the tornado touched down near the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Fairy Street and tracked about a half-mile east before lifting near the intersection of Chatham Heights Road and Bob Gregory Street.
The weather service said the tornado produced maximum estimated winds of 80 miles per hour.
Several trees were snapped or downed along the path, and two power poles were also blown down near the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Fairy Street.
The tornado was rated EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which includes tornadoes with winds between 65 and 85 mph.

The weather service said the tornado’s path length was 0.53 miles with a maximum width of 125 yards.
The tornado touched down at 10:42 a.m. Monday and lifted at 10:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service thanked the City of Martinsville Emergency Services for assisting with the storm survey.
rbs news now reported live from the scene Monday after Martinsville crews were called to the area because trees, power lines and power poles had come down and crews worked to make repairs.
The weather service noted that the information is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in official storm data.
