HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville man was killed Tuesday evening after his car crashed into the roadside sign at Captain Tom’s Seafood restaurant.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 2615 Greensboro Road shortly after the crash was reported around 5:35 p.m.

Virginia State Police said Jerold W. Carter, 59, was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang northbound on Greensboro Road, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck the restaurant’s sign, which sits in the parking lot.

Carter was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation.
