HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A former Henry County attorney has been arrested in connection with an ongoing sexual assault investigation involving a juvenile, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday.
Investigators said a complaint was filed alleging that between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31, 2025, Christopher William Roop, 43, engaged in sexual intercourse on multiple occasions with a 16-year-old juvenile by force, threat or intimidation.
As a result of the investigation, Roop has been charged with two counts of rape.
He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
Authorities said no additional identifying information will be released due to the sensitive nature of the case and the age of the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible as investigators continue reviewing evidence.

In 2025, the Virginia State Bar permanently revoked Roop’s law license after determining he failed to comply with conditions set during an earlier suspension.
His license had initially been suspended for one year for violations of professional conduct rules involving diligence, communication, client property and other ethical obligations.
According to a memorandum from the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board, Roop did not attend an August 2025 hearing to review his suspension and possible revocation.
Investigators testified that he had not completed required ethics review conditions or provided proof that he had notified clients and made arrangements for their cases.
Before becoming an attorney, Roop served as a Virginia State Trooper and was admitted to the bar in 2013.
