PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Woolwine man faces multiple felony charges following a high-speed motorcycle pursuit Friday night that spanned multiple jurisdictions and ended in a crash.

The Patrick County Sheriff’s Office said Casey James Hanson, 29, has been charged with felony attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and multiple traffic offenses.

The Virginia State Police also charged Hanson with felony attempting to elude and three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.

Authorities said the incident began around 11:15 p.m. when a deputy attempted to catch up to a motorcycle going east on Route 57 near Goblintown Road at speeds of about 100 mile per hour.

When the deputy activated his emergency lights and siren, the motorcyclist allegedly refused to stop and continued into Henry County at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The pursuit continued onto Trent Hill Drive and Philpott Drive, with additional Patrick County units joining.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office became involved in the Oak Level area as the suspect continued south on U.S. 220.

State police joined the pursuit near Bassett Forks.

Authorities said law enforcement officers attempted a rolling roadblock to slow the motorcycle.

During that maneuver, Hanson allegedly struck a state trooper’s patrol vehicle three times before crashing on Greensboro Road, about half a mile from the North Carolina line.

Hanson was taken into custody at the scene.

Officials said no injuries were reported.

The state trooper’s patrol vehicle sustained significant damage, while a Patrick County deputy’s vehicle had minor damage.

Hanson is being held without bond at the Patrick County Jail.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A pursuit involving a motorcycle ended in a crash in Henry County, with one person taken into custody.

The pursuit was started late Friday night, April 17, by the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, according to authorities.

The pursuit continued into Henry County and ended on Greensboro Road, about half a mile from the North Carolina state line, when the motorcycle crashed.

Authorities said one individual was taken into custody.

No further details about injuries or charges were immediately released.

The Virginia State Police is investigating the crash.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the incident.
