BASSETT, Va. (rbs news now) — A Bassett man is facing drug distribution charges after a search warrant was executed at his home, where authorities also removed children due to safety concerns.

Deputies with the patrol division began investigating suspected narcotics distribution at a residence on Riverside Drive.

On April 24, deputies executed a search warrant at the home.

During the operation, Gregory Ray Meade, 54, arrived at the property.

Deputies attempted to direct him into the driveway, but he drove away briefly before returning.

Authorities said Meade was seen driving toward a nearby wood line before coming back to the residence.

A search of that area led to the discovery of a bag containing suspected meth and another bag containing suspected schedule II pills.

A search of Meade’s vehicle also resulted in the seizure of multiple digital scales and cell phones, items commonly associated with drug distribution.

According to investigators, Meade later admitted to distributing meth and told deputies he discarded the drugs from his vehicle after noticing law enforcement.

During the investigation, deputies determined children were living in the home.

The Henry-Martinsville Department of Social Services responded and took custody of the children, who were placed with a family member.

Meade was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute meth and possession with intent to distribute schedule II narcotics.

He is currently being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

“The Henry County Sheriff’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to aggressively pursue those who distribute illegal narcotics in our community,” Sheriff Wayne Davis said. “Drug dealers who endanger the safety and well-being of our citizens—especially our children—will be identified, investigated, and brought to justice. We will continue working tirelessly to protect the youth of our community and ensure that Henry County remains a safe place for families to live and thrive.”
