HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville man died after a crash Thursday night on Joseph Martin Highway in Henry County, according to Virginia State Police.

Emergency crews responded at around 10:25 p.m. May 21 to Joseph Martin Highway, about three-tenths of a mile west of Greensboro Road near the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA.

State police said a 2012 Ford F-150 was going west on Joseph Martin Highway when it ran off the left side of the road and struck an embankment.

The pickup truck ended up nose down, trapping the driver inside.

Crews removed the driver from the wreckage before he was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital with injuries.

The driver, 53-year-old Alvin Lee Jones Jr., was not wearing a seatbelt and later died at the hospital, according to authorities.

Police said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The Ridgeway District Volunteer Fire Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Henry County Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
