ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (rbs news now) — An 18-year-old Rocky Mount woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a man died following a stabbing early Tuesday morning at an apartment complex in Rocky Mount.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers and other first responders were dispatched at around 2:32 a.m. on July 7 to the Candlewood Apartments, located on 340 East Court St., for a report of a person suffering from a knife wound.

The preliminary investigation determined that 27-year-old Nikita Aaron Williams of Rocky Mount sustained a puncture wound to the upper chest.

First responders provided emergency medical care at the scene before Williams was transported by Franklin County Public Safety to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Despite life-saving efforts, Williams later died at the hospital.

Following the preliminary investigation, police arrested 18-year-old Amanda Nicole Akers and charged her with second-degree murder.

Akers is being held without bond at the Franklin County Jail.

The Rocky Mount Police Department said the investigation remains active as detectives continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
