HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — An 18-year-old Collinsville man was arrested in connection with a Rockingham County, North Carolina, investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Luis Angel Zuniga-Salgado was taken into custody July 9 by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the arrest stems from an investigation that began June 27 after deputies responded to the UNC Health Rockingham hospital in Eden, North Carolina, regarding the reported sexual assault of a 14-year-old female.

Investigators said the juvenile reported that an 18-year-old male had entered her home through a window at approximately 3 a.m.

Authorities said the two had met through a texting application and arranged to meet before the suspect allegedly fled after being discovered.

As a result of the investigation, Rockingham County detectives obtained warrants charging Zuniga-Salgado with two counts of felony statutory rape of a juvenile under 15 years of age, felony first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said Zuniga-Salgado will also face additional charges in Virginia related to a cyber tip developed during the investigation.

Authorities said he is also being held on an immigration detainer.
