BASSETT, Va. (rbs news now) — One person was killed and two others, including a child, were airlifted to a hospital following a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Bassett, according to Bassett Volunteer Fire Department Chief Junior Lynch.

Lynch told rbs news now that emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 4:53 p.m. to the 5500 block of Fairystone Park Highway near Crest View Drive for the crash.

Medical helicopters landed in a landing zone established across from the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department.

A child and a woman were flown to a hospital for treatment.

One person died as a result of the crash.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services also responded and took custody of a dog that was involved in the crash.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has the road completely shut down.
