HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A series of emergency responses occurred Saturday night at the Relax Inn on Virginia Avenue in Collinsville, following a well-being check that escalated into a fire incident.
The call came in around 10:15 p.m., prompting assistance from local law enforcement and fire departments.
Sergeant Aaron Davis of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office provided details to rbs news now at the scene.
“Originally, we got a call about a well-being check about an individual here that was suffering from some mental health issues, possibly suicidal,” Davis explained. “Deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded out here first. They were unable to locate. Come to find out, we didn’t have proper information from the original caller.”
Shortly after, another call reported a structure fire and an individual claiming someone was trying to set him on fire.
Davis said the Martinsville Police Department arrived first for mutual aid and found the individual, who was experiencing paranoia.

The Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Fieldale Volunteer Fire Company and the Henry County Public Safety responded to extinguish the fire.
“They extinguished the fire. We evacuated everybody out of the building. No other injuries are reported,” Davis said.
The fires were contained to the room where the individual was located.
Davis mentioned that the person believed someone was trying to harm him, but that it was likely linked to intoxication and mental health issues.
“It’s believed that he was intoxicated at the time and suffering from some paranoia. His levels were off, and he’s been affected pretty severely,” he added.
Davis praised the cooperation among responding agencies.
“Our partnership with the Martinsville Police Department has been really good. They arrived quickly, located the individual, and evacuated everyone from the building before we arrived. We really appreciate the support and teamwork tonight.”
