HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A 34-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in Henry County, according to an update released Tuesday, July 28 by Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. Sunday, July 26, on Virginia Avenue at the intersection of Dyer Street.

According to state police, a 2006 Hyundai Tucson was going north on Virginia Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the northbound lane of the road.

The pedestrian, identified as Amber Michelle Hodges, was transported to Sovah Health in Martinsville, where she later died from her injuries.

As rbs news now previously reported, Hodges was initially transported by the Fieldale-Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad to Stanleytown Elementary School, where the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department established a landing zone for an AirLife medical helicopter.

The helicopter did not transport her, and the flight crew instead rode in the ambulance to Sovah Health.

Other responding agencies included the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and Henry County Department of Public Safety.

According to police, no charges are pending at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle shortly after midnight Sunday in Henry County.

Authorities told rbs news now that emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 12 a.m. on July 26 to the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Dyer Street for the incident.

The victim was loaded into a Fieldale-Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad ambulance and transported to Stanleytown Elementary School, where the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department established a landing zone for an AirLife medical helicopter.

The helicopter ultimately did not transport the patient.

Instead, the flight crew rode with the patient in the back of the Fieldale-Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad ambulance to Sovah Health in Martinsville.

Other responding agencies included the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and Henry County Department of Public Safety.

Virginia State Police is investigating the crash.
