HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A wanted man was taken into custody late Thursday night after a standoff at a home in the 300 block of Friendly Church Road in Henry County.
Deputies responded there at approximately 7:15 p.m. Aug. 20 to serve an arrest warrant for Waylon Douglas Ryder, who was wanted on a probation violation stemming from underlying drug-related offenses.
When deputies arrived, Ryder attempted to leave through the back door but retreated inside after seeing a deputy.
Deputies said they then heard Ryder using a power tool to screw the doors shut from inside the residence.
Ryder refused repeated requests to surrender and was believed to be hiding inside, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The SWAT team responded with a search warrant.
After additional attempts to have Ryder surrender peacefully, deputies entered the residence through the front door.

Deputies said they assisted an uninvolved woman in leaving the home.
The SWAT team then deployed chemical munitions as part of efforts to resolve the standoff and conducted a search of the residence.
Shortly after 11 p.m., deputies located Ryder hiding in the attic.
He was taken into custody without further incident.
Ryder faces charges of felony probation violation and obstructing justice.
Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now at the scene that a fatal drug overdose occurred at the same residence about a week before Thursday night’s nearly four hours standoff.
“Let this serve as a clear message—if you are wanted by law enforcement in Henry County, there is no safe place to hide,” Sheriff Davis said. “Our deputies will use every lawful means necessary to locate you, take you into custody, and ensure you are held accountable.”
