RIDGEWAY, Va. (rbs news now) — An 18-year-old man is dead following a shooting Saturday morning, Oct. 31, in the town of Ridgeway, according to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis.

The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. in the Main Street Market parking lot on Main Street.

During an interview with rbs news now on Garrett Road, Sheriff Davis said investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an alleged firearm transaction between individuals who knew each other.

“Two individuals in this vehicle met the decedent there on the side of the road for an alleged firearms transaction that went bad,” Davis said.

According to the sheriff, the incident was captured on video.

Investigators believe two individuals were inside a black vehicle when at least one person fired a shot, striking the 18-year-old.

The victim was found deceased at the scene on Main Street.

Following the shooting, investigators located the vehicle on Garrett Road in Ridgeway.

Sheriff Davis said two individuals, a man and a juvenile male, were detained for questioning and transported to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were working to obtain a search warrant to seize the vehicle and transport it to the sheriff’s office, where crime scene technicians would process it for physical evidence.

Davis said investigators identified the vehicle through video footage that captured its license plate,alongwith information provided by eyewitnesses.

The sheriff described the incident as a tragedy for the victim’s family and the community.

“It’s really tragic. It’s chaotic for a family here in this community to lose a young man over an absolute senseless act of violence,” Davis said. “It’s a terrible day.”

Davis said the investigation was still in its early stages and that all information remained preliminary.

The sheriff confirmed the shooting marks the second homicide in Henry County in 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing.
