PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A two-vehicle crash on August 7 claimed the life of a Chatham woman and injured several others.

The incident happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Franklin Turnpike near Country Lane in Pittsylvania County.

According to authorities, a 2009 Hyundai Genesis, driven by 27-year-old Uniqua Alece Wykia Carter, was going north on Franklin Turnpike when she lost control of the vehicle.

The Hyundai crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet Sierra.

Police said Carter, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to SOVAH Health in Danville, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The passenger in the Hyundai, an 11-year-old girl, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 32-year-old man, and a passenger, a 2-year-old girl, were properly secured in safety equipment and were transported to the hospital with injuries, according to police.

The crash is still under investigation.
