DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Robert David has been chosen by the committee of the Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange Fund to participate in a two-week research trip to Sweden in September 2025.

David is the violence prevention manager for the City of Danville and head of Project Imagine.

He will explore how addressing fundamental youth needs, based on Maslow’s hierarchy, can play a pivotal role in deterring gang violence.

“I am honored to have been selected for this prestigious program,” said David. “This opportunity will enable me to gather insights that can further enhance our efforts with Project Imagine and contribute to creating safer, more supportive communities for our youth here in Danville.”

The Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange Fund, established by the Swedish Parliament in 1976, supports research in fields such as public administration, politics, education, and social development.

David’s project will focus on comparing youth development and violence prevention strategies between the U.S. and Sweden, examining the effectiveness of community-based interventions in both nations, a news release said.

Under David’s leadership, Project Imagine works to steer at-risk youth away from gang involvement through mentorship, life skills training, and educational opportunities.

His work has earned him recognition as a leader in youth violence prevention, significantly reducing gang activity in Danville, the release said.

Participants in the exchange program are expected to share their findings upon returning to ensure that their research benefits a wider audience.
