MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Free tax preparation services are now available for individuals and families with household incomes of $67,000 or less.

The service is offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and is by appointment only.

The tax preparation site, located at 10 Liberty Extension in Martinsville (below Lester Building Supply), operates during the following hours:

• Tuesday – Friday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Saturday: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
• Closed on Mondays

Those seeking assistance must bring the necessary documents to their appointment, including:

• Photo ID (and spouse’s ID, if applicable)
• Social Security cards and birth dates for all individuals on the return
• All income-related forms (W-2, 1098, 1099, 1095)
• Direct deposit information (bank routing and account numbers)

For married couples filing jointly, both individuals must be present to sign before the return can be submitted.
