
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Rocky Mount man has been charged with second-degree murder after the body of a missing 21-year-old was found in Franklin County.
Authorities said they recovered the body of a man on March 17 in the area of Power Dam Road in Franklin County.
The remains were transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for identification and further investigation.
On March 25, the medical examiner positively identified the victim as Charles Arthur Smith Jr. who had been reported missing after last being seen on or about Feb. 22.
Authorities said the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

On March 26, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Terry Shawn Hodges, 43, in connection with Smith’s death.
Investigators said Hodges, who is Smith’s brother, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Hodges is being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail pending further court proceedings.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information may be released as appropriate.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said it extends its condolences to Smith’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says authorities have recovered the body of a deceased individual in Franklin County.
In a March 18 news release, the sheriff’s office said the body was recovered March 17.

Authorities said the deceased person was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for identification and further investigation.
No additional details were released.
