PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A crash led authorities to the discovery of two deceased individuals inside a Pittsylvania County home Saturday afternoon leading to an active death investigation by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the authorities received a report of a vehicle crash at around 12:50 p.m. on June 27 in the 12,000 block of East Gretna Road.

When first responders arrived, they found a single vehicle that had crashed into a residence.

As emergency crews entered the home to check for possible occupants and injuries, they encountered circumstances that led them to immediately request a law enforcement response.

Deputies located two deceased individuals inside the residence.

Authorities said the victims, a 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were both residents of the home.

Preliminary observations indicated that both individuals appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Both bodies are being transported to the medical examiner’s office, where autopsies will be performed to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
