MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Martinsville police are searching for a person who fled on foot after an officer heard gunshots early Saturday morning.

Around 12 a.m. on Aug. 1, a Martinsville Police Department officer was leaving the scene of a crash on Forest Street when he heard gunshots in the area, the officer told rbs news now at the scene.

The officer then stopped a black Nissan Versa near the intersection of Starling Avenue and Virginia Street.

Two individuals were detained at the scene, while a third person fled on foot, according to the officer.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in the search by deploying a drone.

Authorities are continuing to search for the individual.

No injuries have been reported.
