HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A woman was airlifted to a hospital after an incident Monday afternoon involving law enforcement and a K9 in Henry County.

Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now that Virginia State Police were conducting a crash investigation on Virginia Avenue when the woman ran into a wooded area.

Sheriff Davis said the woman was armed with a razor knife and threatened to harm law enforcement officers.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

A K9 was deployed during the response, and Davis said the woman stabbed the canine multiple times.

The K9 was taken to a veterinarian clinic for treatment.

Sheriff Davis said the woman was airlifted to a hospital for treatment related to the use of less-lethal force.

The Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Department of Public Safety, and Bassett Rescue Squad also responded.

The investigation remains ongoing.
