HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A home was completely destroyed by a fire Tuesday afternoon in Henry County.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. in the 200 block of Pine View Lane.

Dyers Store Volunteer Fire Department, Axton Volunteer Fire Department, Callands Volunteer Fire Department and Brosville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, along with the Henry County Department of Public Safety.

Henry County Fire Marshal Kiah Cooper told rbs news now at the scene that a neighbor reported the fire.

One of the homeowners was also outside in the front yard when crews arrived.

Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home and began firefighting operations.

Cooper said crews worked for several hours before the fire was brought under control.

Because the home is in a remote area near the Pittsylvania County line, Cooper said crews had a significant distance to travel to the scene.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.

Cooper said the fire marshal’s office would begin its investigation in cooperation with the home’s insurance companies.

An elderly woman who was at the property was evaluated by public safety personnel and transported for further evaluation.

Cooper said his understanding was that she was doing well and was transported as a precaution.

The American Red Cross also responded to the scene and was assisting those affected by the fire.
