FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A firefighter injured during a structure fire Monday morning in Franklin County has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Franklin County Fire & EMS.

The incident began at about 7:16 a.m. on June 15 when the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Center received a report of a structure fire in the Fork Mountain area of the county.

Multiple agencies responded to assist with firefighting operations and water hauling, including the Fork Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Rocky Mount Fire Department, Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Callaway Volunteer Fire Department, Boones Mill Volunteer Fire/EMS, Henry Volunteer Fire Department, Snow Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department.

Franklin County Fire & EMS personnel were also on scene and began fire suppression efforts.

During the operation, emergency radio traffic reported a partial building collapse and an injured firefighter.

Medics assigned to Squad 2 immediately provided medical care before the firefighter was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Officials later identified the injured firefighter as Jeremy Parker of the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

According to Franklin County Fire & EMS, Parker was struck by an 8-by-8 oak beam that fell during firefighting operations.

Officials said Parker has since been released from the hospital and returned home, where he is expected to spend several weeks recovering.

The cause of the structure fire was not immediately released.
