HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A man has been charged after a Virginia State Police trooper discovered Molotov cocktails inside a pickup truck parked on DuPont Road near the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred at 12:39 p.m. Monday near the 800 block of DuPont Road in Henry County.
Police said a trooper assigned to Henry County stopped to investigate a 2015 Toyota Tacoma that was improperly parked in the roadway.
The vehicle’s operator was outside the truck when the trooper arrived.
As the trooper exited the patrol vehicle, the man got back into the truck and placed his hands on the steering wheel.
When the trooper asked why the vehicle was stopped in the road, the man allegedly responded, “I need to be arrested.”
The trooper then asked why, and according to state police, the man pointed to the passenger-side floorboard and stated he had Molotov cocktails and wanted to detonate one.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities cleared the area of emergency vehicles and closed DuPont Road while the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the agency’s Bomb Unit responded to examine the vehicle.
Investigators said several suspicious items were located and safely removed from the scene.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Morgan Vincent Chambers of Martinsville.
Chambers was transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center and charged with manufacture, possession, use or distribution of firebombs, explosive materials and hoax explosive devices, a Class 5 felony, and attempted commission of a felony.
On Monday, Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now that law enforcement found multiple homemade incendiary devices consistent with Molotov cocktails, as well as additional components that could be used to create homemade explosive devices.
The incident remains under investigation.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after a Virginia State Police trooper discovered suspected homemade incendiary devices inside a vehicle stopped on DuPont Road near the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now that the incident began at approximately 1 p.m. as a Virginia State Police trooper was leaving the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
The trooper encountered a vehicle stopped in the roadway on DuPont Road just outside the detention center and exited his patrol vehicle to check on the driver.
“What he discovered is one male occupant in the vehicle. The male occupant of the vehicle made concerning statements about explosive devices being inside of the vehicle. At that time, he was taken into custody by the trooper,” Sheriff Davis said.
Authorities subsequently searched the vehicle and located what appeared to be multiple homemade incendiary devices.

“What we have observed in the vehicle are, in fact, homemade incendiary devices, commonly referred to and most consistent with the Molotov cocktail. Multiples of those, as well as other components that could be used to create homemade explosive devices,” Davis said.
The Virginia State Police Bomb Squad was requested to respond to examine the suspected devices, render them safe and process the vehicle for evidence.
DuPont Road will be closed for several hours and Sheriff Davis urges motorists to avoid the area until the investigation is complete.
“There’s no concern for the community, I want to make that clear. There’s no concern to the community at this time. The individual is in custody,” Davis said.
The Ridgeway District Volunteer Fire Department and the Henry County Department of Public Safety also responded in support roles.
Investigators plan to conduct a comprehensive interview to determine the motive and whether charges would be filed.
