HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A wanted man was taken into custody on July 7 after standoff with law enforcement in Henry County.
Deputies responded around 7:40 p.m. to Camp Branch Road to serve five outstanding warrants — including two felony charges and three misdemeanors — on 32-year-old Darren Earl Bacon Jr., who was wanted by the City of Martinsville.
Upon arrival, deputies said they detected movement inside the mobile home and heard a television playing, but repeated attempts to make contact went unanswered.
Authorities then obtained a search warrant and deployed the sheriff’s office’s SWAT team, negotiators and drone team.
After breaching the front door, law enforcement used a drone to locate Bacon in a bedroom.
He peacefully surrendered shortly afterward, ending the barricaded standoff that lasted nearly 3 hours.
Bacon was taken to the Henry County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond. He faces the following charges:
- Entering a dwelling with intent to commit larceny, assault and battery, or another felony (Martinsville)
- Felony larceny (Martinsville)
- Intentionally damaging property (misdemeanor, Martinsville)
- Simple assault (two counts, misdemeanors, Martinsville)
- Resisting arrest or obstructing justice (misdemeanor, Henry County)
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Virginia State Police and Henry County Public Safety for their assistance.
The investigation remains ongoing.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A man was taken into custody on July 7 following a standoff at a mobile home on Camp Branch Drive in Henry County.
According to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis, deputies arrived at the residence to serve five outstanding warrants on Darren Earl Bacon Jr. including one felony charge of breaking and entering and four related misdemeanor charges issued by the Martinsville Police Department.
“When deputies arrived, they heard a male voice inside the residence who refused to exit,” Sheriff Davis told rbs news now at the scene. “We established a perimeter and obtained a search warrant. Since that time, we received information from multiple different sources stating that he was inside and was refusing to come out.”
Deputies surrounded the home for nearly three hours before Bacon surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
Davis said Bacon’s criminal history includes prior firearms charges leading the sheriff’s office to treat the situation with elevated caution.
“We are most certainly taking the safety of this community and our deputies first and foremost,” Davis said. “I’m thankful to God above once again for being successful to keep our deputies safe, our community safe, and even the individual inside.”
Davis, who suited up and joined his deputies on scene, said he leads by example when his deputies are placed in potentially dangerous situations.
“I’ve never asked my people to do anything I’m not willing to do myself,” he said. “If they’re in harm’s way, I’m going to be there with them. I’m thankful and blessed to have such a dedicated team.”
The sheriff said that evading arrest is not an option in Henry County.
“Criminals are never going to be allowed to have free reign in this community,” Davis said. “Just because you decide not to answer the door doesn’t mean your night’s going to go on. We’re going to exhaust every effort to take you into custody.”
Bacon is currently being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
