HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Governor Glenn Youngkin on Tuesday, September 9 announced that Nathan Trotter will invest approximately $65 million to build a first-of-its-kind metal production and processing facility in Henry County.

Leaders say Nathan Trotter is the leading supplier and recycler of tin and tin alloy products in North America.

The 115,000-square-foot facility, called Tin Ridge in recognition of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains, will be constructed on a 44-acre site at the Patriot Centre Industrial Park.

At full capacity, the project is expected to create an estimated 118 new jobs.

“With today’s exciting announcement at Tin Ridge, Virginia continues to demonstrate that we are the best state in America if you’re looking to do business,” Governor Youngkin said. “Nathan Trotter’s historic investment in Henry County only strengthens our national defense supply chain while also creating new, high-quality jobs and career opportunities in advanced manufacturing for the people of Southern Virginia.”

The U.S. government has declared tin a critical mineral due to its use in circuit boards, electronics, defense systems, electric vehicles, robotics, and aerospace technology.

The new facility will be the nation’s first large-scale plant capable of refining both tin concentrate and scrap tin, significantly increasing domestic supply and recycling capacity, according to officials.

“Our new state-of-the-art tin processing facility will play an important and historic role in strengthening our nation’s fragile tin supply chain, as global competition and demand for critical minerals reaches extraordinary levels,” said Tyler Morris, vice president and partner at Nathan Trotter. “We selected Henry County and the state of Virginia for the talented workforce and proximity to key ports, customers, suppliers, and our network of tin production facilities throughout the region.”

Founded in 1789, the family-owned company is based in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, with four refining and finishing plants across the state.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Henry County and the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to secure the project.

Youngkin approved a $1.5 million grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund.

Henry County and the EDC presented the company with $1 million, and The Harvest Foundation contributed $650,000.
