
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a Martinsville woman last month has been arrested.
Police announced that on June 13, the Martinsville Police Department and the United States Marshals Service located and arrested 24-year-old De’Corrius Thompson.
Authorities said Thompson had been wanted in connection with the May 12 shooting in the 300 block of Hairston Street that left 53-year-old Marcie Hunt dead and another victim injured.
Acting on a tip, officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Road, just outside the Martinsville city limits.
Thompson was taken into custody without incident.

Thompson is charged in Martinsville with first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In addition to the Martinsville charges, Thompson was arrested on outstanding warrants from Henry County and the Virginia State Police.
Those charges include felony probation violation, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, use of a firearm from a vehicle and maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle.
Authorities said those charges are unrelated to the May 12 shooting.
Thompson is being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A missing 2-year-old Martinsville child was found safe on Wednesday, May 27, after Virginia State Police issued a CODI Alert and one suspect connected to a deadly Martinsville shooting was taken into custody.
According to state police, the alert was issued on behalf of the Martinsville Police Department after authorities said the child had last been seen on West Fayette Street in Martinsville with 24-year-old De’Corrius Thompson and 24-year-old Kaniya Finney.
Police said the disappearance posed a credible threat to the child’s health and safety.
Later Wednesday afternoon, Martinsville police announced the child had been located safely.
Authorities also said Finney is now in custody and faces charges of accessory to first-degree murder and accessory to malicious wounding.

Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads told rbs news now Finney came to the police department when the CODI alert went out.
Thompson remains wanted by Martinsville police on charges of first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The charges stem from the May 12 shooting in the 300 block of Hairston Street that left 53-year-old Marcie Hunt dead and another man injured.
Martinsville police said Crime Stoppers has secured a $1,000 reward for information leading to Thompson’s arrest, along with an additional $500 reward for information related to evidence in the case.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Two people are wanted after Martinsville police say a social media dispute escalated into a deadly shooting that left a Martinsville woman dead and her son injured.
Officers responded May 12 to a shooting in the 300 block of Hairston Street, where they found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to the hospital.
Police said 53-year-old Marcie Hunt, of Martinsville, later died from her injuries.
The man was treated and later released from the hospital.
Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads said investigators believe the individuals involved knew each other and that the incident stemmed from an ongoing disagreement on Facebook and social media that escalated into an in-person shooting outside the victims’ home.

Rhoads said the dispute appeared to be connected to personal relationships between the parties involved.
Investigators later determined at least three firearms were used during the incident and that more than a dozen shots were fired.
Through the investigation, detectives identified two suspects and obtained warrants for 24-year-old De’Corrius Thompson and 24-year-old Kaniya Finney, both of Martinsville.
Thompson is charged with first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Finney is charged with ccessory to first-degree murder and accessory to malicious wounding.
Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Thompson or Finney to call 9-1-1 immediately.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Martinsville police are investigating a homicide after two people were shot Tuesday night in the 300 block of Hairston Street.
Officers responded to the shooting at approximately 10:36 p.m. on May 12.
When officers arrived, they discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police said 53-year-old Marcie Hunt, of Martinsville, was transported to Sovah Health – Martinsville, where she later died from her injuries.
A man was also taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds before being transferred to another hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Police previously told rbs news now the shooting occurred in the rear of the home.
Authorities also said two suspects were involved and investigators believed one of the suspects may have also been shot.
