PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Virginia man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants was arrested Friday after allegedly leading a Patrick County Sheriff’s Office deputy on a vehicle pursuit before attempting to flee on foot.

According to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a black Honda Accord on July 3 after the vehicle was clocked traveling 72 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

As the deputy attempted to overtake the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled by turning onto Connect Road and then Mountain View Loop.

Authorities said the vehicle eventually stopped on Vipperman Lane, where the driver exited and ran from the scene.

Multiple law enforcement officers responded and began searching for the suspect.

A short time later, the suspect was spotted near Rich Creek Drive and Progress Drive, where deputies said he again attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Robert Allen Trent Jr. of Cumberland.

According to the sheriff’s office, Trent was wanted on outstanding warrants from Carroll, Pulaski, Appomattox, Buckingham and Wythe counties.

Those warrants included felony probation violation and failure to appear charges stemming from underlying offenses that include abduction, malicious wounding, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, shoplifting and distribution of marijuana.

Trent is being held without bond at the Patrick County Jail.

The Virginia State Police assisted the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office in the apprehension.
